hauling john deere equipment safely and efficiently

What matters before you roll

Moving green machines is about more than horsepower. Start by confirming the weight, width, and height of the tractor or implement, including loaders or duals. Check that your trailer’s GVWR and your tie-downs’ WLL exceed the load, and consider a gooseneck or lowboy if the center of gravity sits high.

Loading and securement

Load on firm, level ground. Use ramps rated for the mass, keep the bucket or blades lowered, and engage parking brake and transport locks. Balance the load with roughly 60/40 over the axles, cross-chain the front, and add separate restraints for attachments. Protect edges with softeners so straps don’t chafe.

  • Permits: Over 8 ft 6 in wide may require oversize papers and escorts.
  • Clearance: Watch ROPS height and overhead lines.
  • Route: Plan for grades, bridges, and turn radii.
  • Weather: Wet decks need cleats or mats.
  • Inspection: Do pre/post-trip checks and re-torque after 50 miles.

Finally, communicate with a spotter, carry chocks, and keep an emergency kit ready-small steps that pay off miles down the road.
